My hair is so flat, besides using a volumizing shampoo, is there anything Biolage can do?
In addition to using Biolage Amplify Volumizing system, ask your stylist to give you long layers! Long layers will give your hair movement and a lot of volume.

How much should I tip my hairstylist, colorist and shampoo girl?
You should tip your stylist or colorist 15-20% percent of your total bill if he or she is the only person who worked on your hair.
Give the shampoo person - if there is one - a separate gratuity. Typically, a shampoo person receives $2.

How can I get a great haircut from a salon?
1) Ask For Recommendations - If you see someone with a great style, ask them about it! They'll be thrilled that you asked.

2) Bring Pictures! - Do your research! Buy a couple of beauty magazines like Allure, Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire, or find pictures of celebrities. Bring in as many pictures as possible of the style that you want.

3) Know Your Hair! - Stylists are not magicians. Is your hair thick or thin, fine or curly, wavy or straight, flat or frizzy? These details are important for your hair cut. If you want a certain hairstyle, it may not be right for your hair type - only your hairdresser can know for sure.

Do you have any tips on talking to my hairdresser about the haircut that I want?
I have a few tips about telling your hairdresser what you want.

1) Bring a picture! Stylists are visual artists and if you show a picture, there's no way you can go wrong. Your stylist will tell you if the cut will not work exactly with your hair and face. You can talk about it and work together to find the style that will look good on you.

2) Refer to body parts! Use reference points. For example, " Don't cut below my collarbone."

3) Make faces in the mirror! If you don't like what is happening, make a face and raise your eyebrow. Your hairdresser will notice and ask you if everything is ok.

I want to know the best way to make my hair dark without looking fake?
First, seek a professional consultation- go to the salon locator and make an appointment with a matrix colorist.
Depending on your natural/existing level- to remain more natural looking you should only go 2 levels darker than what your natural is otherwise you get roots in 2 weeks and it does look fake. Ask your colorist for a dimensional color. They will deepen and take on the tone of the darker but will not reach the same depth and as a result, will look more like natural color does- your end result will be dark with dimension instead of solid color.

I dyed my hair too black! How do I fix it?
You will need something called a tint removal from a professional stylist. After you see your stylist, ask them for some good color maintaining products.

I have a question about getting rid of highlights. I have naturally dark brown hair but decided to put very light highlights in it that involved using bleach (this was professionally done). I now want to get rid of the highlights because I think the repetitive dying is killing my hair and I am in the process of growing it out (it's about shoulder length now). I was wondering what advice you could give me about getting rid of the highlights that will damage it the least and won't require me to chop off my newly grown locks. Thanks so much.

Speak to your stylist and tell her everything you just told me. Then ask your stylist to use a demicolor on you, which will be the least damaging to your hair. Also, Biolage makes Earthtones, which are color conditioners and come in 5 colors, try the violet to tone down or brown depending on the color of the high lights.

Today my stylist highlighted my naturally brown hair with blonde highlights. I had already gone blonde, more strawberry than true blonde before she applied the highlights. It is so blonde and concentrated only in the crown of my head. I don't like it but don't know what to ask for to change it. What do I ask for? What can be done to look more like a natural blonde vs. a bleached blonde?
The most important thing you can do is communicate. Share your concerns with your stylist. Communicate to her that you feel too blonde and tell her you would like some lowlights added in. Your stylist will be more than happy to help you out.
